History of Kotlin Programming Language

               Kotlin is named after an Island name kotlin which is located near to St. Petersburg,Russia. Andrey Beslav Development Lead mentioned that the team decided to name it after an island just like Java was named after the Indonesian island of Java.

    Journey of Kotlin Programming language started in  2011,In July 2011, JetBrains launched a  Project and  named it as  Kotlin, a new language for the JVM, which had been under Coding for a year.

Most languages did not have the features they were looking for, with the exception of Scala said by JetBrains lead Dmitry Jemerov.

The main goal of introducing Kotlin Programming is to reduce the compile time than the one of the most powerful Languages like JAVA. 

Finally in Febraury 2012,Kotlin is introduced as open source project under Apache2 by JetBrains.

Its primary development is from a team of JetBrains programmers based in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Even though Syntax of kotlin programming language is not compatible with Java,Kotlin is designed so that Kotlin is interoporable with java code and reliant on java code .


While the syntax is not compatible with Java, Kotlin is designed to interoperate with Java code and is reliant on Java code from the existing. Java Class Library such as the Collections Framework

Kotlin Programming Language is being promoted by Google Android.

Kotlin Programming Language is influenced by programming Languages such as Java,Scala,Groovy,C#,Gosu,JavaScript,Swift. 

Kotlin Programming Language Version 1.0 is considered as the first officially stable release and was released on 15th febraury 2016.

Google announced first-class support for Kotlin on Android at Google I/O 2017.
     Kotlin is designed as it will be an Industrial strength Object Oriented Programming language and better than Java,but still complete interoperable with Java code and can migrate code from java to kotlin easily said by Andrey Breslav ,Development Lead
